Stripe's opt-out Radar price increase dressed up as a free trial
Stripe just sent me an opt-opt notification about an automatic Radar upgrade. They've moved me to a "Standard" Radar plan because it's "closest" to the free plan I was on.
It's free until January 2027, after which they start charging me a per transaction fee (and per connect account), unless I opt out (which I just did).
I'm guessing everyone on similar Stripe plans will be effected. Wow, really guys? "Opt-out"??
Here's a copy of the email I received (Canadian Stripe Connect rates quoted).
---------- New Stripe Radar plans and pricing
As fraud on the internet has accelerated over the past few years, we've been rapidly adding to Radar, our fraud prevention product. Last year, we prevented $110B in fraud, helped platforms block over 3 million fraudulent accounts and shipped dozens of new features. With so much new functionality, we're introducing four tiers – Lite, Standard, Plus and Pro – and updating pricing.
What this means for you
The version of Radar you've been using is closest to Standard, and you've been receiving it for free. Starting today, you'll receive a free trial of Radar Standard, which now includes broad protection across all payment methods and new capabilities built specifically for platforms – including account risk scores for every connected account, so you can onboard legitimate accounts faster, block high-risk ones, and pause payouts before fraud occurs.
After your trial ends on 22 January 2027, you'll automatically move to Radar Standard and be charged CA$0.07 per screened transaction across your direct payment volume and any volume processed by your connected accounts, plus CA$1.50 per connected account for Radar's new account fraud prevention capabilities.
If you prefer to continue receiving fraud protection for free, you can switch to Radar Lite for your direct payment volume or for your connected accounts in one click at any time from the Dashboard. Radar Lite provides essential fraud protection for card payments, powered by Stripe's industry-leading AI models trained on more than $1.9T in annual payment volume. Radar Lite will be included at no additional cost with your payment processing.
Advanced protection with Plus or Pro
In the AI era, we expect new fraud patterns to emerge quickly. To stay ahead, you can upgrade to Radar Plus or Pro for advanced features like custom rules, reserves, Adaptive 3DS, protection against emerging fraud patterns like free trial abuse and more. As fraud evolves, so will Radar – we're excited to keep improving to protect your business.
You can learn more about this pricing change on our support site or by reaching out to your account team.
