Partnership-Driven Expansion, is it any good?

Sat, 04/27/2024 - 2:58pm

As we chart the course for expanding Quiket (https://quiket.me), a ticketing platform primarily for events, into multiple countries, I'm exploring inventive strategies to achieve this ambitious goal. Currently we are operating in country Bangladesh with all necessary legal foundations in place, I'm carefully considering our approach to penetrating other countries. Rather than adhering to the traditional path of significant upfront investments for local establishment, I'm advocating for a partnership-driven expansion model.

Quiket is a SAAS solution, meticulously tailored for a niche market segment, is ideally suited for this collaborative approach. The proposed concept involves forging alliances with local entities in each target country, wherein both parties would share profits on a mutually beneficial 50-50 basis. The initial phase would entail setting up business operations in the respective country, leveraging our robust technological infrastructure and market insights.

This approach offers a multitude of advantages. Firstly, it streamlines market entry by capitalizing on the indigenous expertise and networks of our partners. Secondly, it disperses some of the inherent risks associated with international expansion, as both financial investment and operational responsibilities are shared between Quiket and our local partners.

However, I'm keenly aware of the critical importance of meticulous planning and rigorous due diligence in partner selection. It's paramount to identify entities in country B that not only align with Quiket's core values and strategic objectives but also possess the requisite industry expertise and resources to effectively promote and distribute our product.

Moreover, crafting transparent and comprehensive partnership agreements will be pivotal in delineating roles, responsibilities, profit-sharing mechanisms, and exit strategies. Collaborating closely with legal experts to ensure full compliance with local regulations and tax statutes is essential to navigate potential challenges seamlessly.

In essence, I firmly believe that embracing a partnership-centric approach to international expansion holds immense promise for Quiket. It promises scalability, agility, and resilience while mitigating the upfront investments and risks typically associated with traditional expansion models. I am genuinely excited about the prospect of delving deeper into this strategy and welcome any insights or recommendations on its optimal execution. Also how can we find these local entities for us? And is this a good strategy?

Ask HN: Custom email domains for personal email?

Sat, 04/27/2024 - 2:47pm

I've been considering getting a custom domain for my email so I wouldn't be tied to a single email provider, how have you set it up?

The registrar and the TLD have to be something trusted, I know people have gotten their cheap domains hijacked. Porkbun seems like a fair and inexpensive option, maybe with the .net TLD? Cheaper options exist but I don't want anything weird sounding that could trigger spam filters.

Also the naming scheme? I thought of firstname@lastname.tld, but many of them are taken, and if I were to set up multiple email aliases, I would be revealing my last name even if I don't want to. It should be at least a little professional sounding, something I won't regret in the long-term.

Of course many of these things are a matter of personal preference, but I want to hear how it works for everyone.

Show HN: A Vulkan-Video-based game streaming tool for Linux

Sat, 04/27/2024 - 1:47pm

I've been working for about 6 months on a new game streaming/remote desktop tool for linux. Gaming on linux is pretty exciting right now, given all the improvements in compatibility, but game streaming isn't really there yet, and the remote desktop space is fairly underdeveloped too.

The server acts as a wayland compositor to get the streamed app or game to render completely off-screen (somewhat like Gamescope, if you're familiar), and it uses Vulkan Video to pass the app's rendered textures directly to the encoder ASIC on the same card. The result is very fast and very low-latency, without a lot of moving parts. Running on the same machine, I get about 15-20ms median latency round-trip (from user input to the frame responding to that input being displayed on the client), which is about one frame at 60fps.

The client is the weakest link right now, but I'm working on a Swift UI macOS/tvOS client that should be a bit nicer to use. You'll also need a reasonably strong GPU to run the server.

Thanks for reading and checking it out! And please leave a bug report if it doesn't work for you, it's quite new and I've basically only tested it on my setup. Running the server with `--bug-report` will dump a video capture and trace log to a folder in /tmp, which you can attach to the report.
