‘Keys to the kingdom’: hackers who gained access to heart of London transport network jailed
Thalha Jubair, 20, and Owen Flowers, 19, sentenced to five and a half years each for cyber-attack that cost Transport for London £39m
The teenage hackers had London’s transport network at their mercy. Thalha Jubair and Owen Flowers had burrowed into the heart of Transport for London’s IT systems and held the “keys to the kingdom”.
TfL said the attack, which occurred between 31 August and 3 September 2024, could have caused “catastrophic damage” to its technology systems and could have led to “significant and extended transport service degradation and disruption”.

Security updates available for Adobe, Chrome, Firefox, VMWare, and Zoom
Security updates are not just for enterprises with a dedicated security team and a change-management calendar. For consumers and small businesses, they are one of the simplest ways to shut down known attack paths before criminals get a chance to use them.
That matters because attackers love these flaws. because browser bugs, code execution issues, authentication bypasses, and privilege-escalation problems can be turned into a foothold, a data theft opportunity, or a full system compromise if left unpatched.
If you only do one thing after reading a security advisory, make it this: update the affected software promptly, restart when required, and verify the version afterward.
AdobeAdobe released a large batch of security updates covering ColdFusion, Commerce/Magento Open Source, and Experience Manager. The ColdFusion bulletin alone includes multiple critical flaws that could lead to arbitrary code execution.
The updates and instructions can be found on the pages we linked to.
ChromeGoogle patched 15 security flaws in Chrome, including two critical use-after-free bugs in Ozone. The fixes are in Chrome 150.0.7871.124/.125, depending on platform.
You can find an explanation of the version numbering system and step-by-step instructions in our guide to how to update Chrome on every operating system.
FirefoxMozilla fixed two critical Firefox flaws in Firefox 152.0.6, and it says public exploit code exists for both issues. One affects JavaScript/WebAssembly and the other involves DOM navigation and site isolation, which makes this more than routine housekeeping.
Users should update Firefox to version 152.0.6 as soon as possible. For most users this can simply be done by restarting the browser. If you see the “What’s new” tab, the update is complete.
VMWareBroadcom released a fix for a critical authentication bypass in VMware Avi Load Balancer, tracked as CVE-2026-47865. The issue could allow a network-accessible attacker to reach the Avi Control Plane, which makes it especially important in environments that expose management services or rely on load balancers at the edge.
Updates and the instructions to apply them can be found in the Security Advisory.
ZoomZoom Security Bulletin ZSB-26014 covers a critical issue in Zoom Workplace for Windows, described as improper input validation. The public record identifies the issue as CVE-2026-53412.
For users, the action item is to update Zoom Workplace for Windows to the vendor-fixed release as soon as it is available in your environment. For small businesses, that means updating not just the app on employee laptops, but also any centralized deployment package so the old build doesn’t come right back on the next install cycle.

Show HN: My triathlon coach (not a human) now texts me on iMessage
When I started triathlon in 2018, my “training plan” was writing down what I did in Apple Notes and watching YouTube for advice. Later, training for my first full-distance IRONMAN, I paid a coach 130eur/month with the goal to learn early so I could self-coach later. When I switched to a static plan (bought a 40-week one I’d reuse), I started spending 20-30min every Sunday reshuffling sessions around work, travel and private commitments.
In early 2025, training for the 70.3 IRONMAN World Championship, I figured AI would finally fix my biggest pain point: automatically adapting my zones and plan from my activity data. But nothing out there did, and I was reluctant to build it myself (I was determined to build in B2B). A year later, once LLMs had improved a lot, I handed my Sunday planning to Claude, and it worked far better than I expected. Friends wanted to try, so I started shipping it to them.
Hundreds of commits later, I believe the thing that matters most is the data layer. Most “AI coaches” smell like AI slop from a mile away (more often than not, just a ChatGPT wrapper designed in lovable). Not saying our landing page isn’t detectable as Claude-generated, but the core has always been proper integration of wearable and app data (Garmin, Whoop, Hevy, Zwift…) - our core product is essentially an MCP server.
Also, we don’t think the future is apps built for millions (n=∞), but custom (n=1) or conversational products. So we now solve for both: direct MCP access so you can build your own dashboards in your preferred tools, and a coach on iMessage that proactively writes and adapts your plan from your activity and recovery data (it reads 20+ wearables and apps) plus your preferences. Founder tip: connect your calendar, so it picks up travel/commitments automatically.
As a bootstrapped consumer startup, our biggest challenge is pricing (we charge yearly/monthly subscription): consumsers still expect a flat subscription, but our marginal cost is per-message inference. Curious to hear how others handle variable costs in an environment where old (subscription) habits prevail. And what your thoughts are on the future of apps!!
