Show HN: DriftTrip – A Virtual Road Trip

Hacker News - Tue, 07/14/2026 - 2:36am

I've always loved the idea of taking a "virtual road trip" between 2 cities. You get to experience the tourism ads or other short-form videos at each "stop" along the way.

I hope others enjoy it as well :)

I want to build an OTT app. Where should I start?

Hacker News - Tue, 07/14/2026 - 2:36am

I am planning to build an OTT (video streaming) app.

I am trying to understand the best approach.

Should I build everything from scratch using cloud services and open-source components, or is it more practical to use white-label OTT builders?

I am aware of the marketing challenges but I am not aware of all technical challenges.

Show HN: Themis – Self-hosted AI code reviews with your own keys and models

Hacker News - Tue, 07/14/2026 - 2:34am

Hey HN,

I wasn't happy with the code review tools we use at work and on my side projects. Noisy, reviews in surface, expensive (overkill for sides). So since Gemini was getting sunsetted, I explored having my own.

As I am a cheap rat, this weekend I built Themis, that works with my Codex/Claude subscriptions (I understood "claude -p" is ok again in subscriptions).

I wanted it open-source so it can help other indie devs or small teams, self-hostable (or local), drawing from subs and mostly, configurable so it works well with your own repos.

No big ambitions nor 1 billion startup here, just fun (so please don't roast ahah). If it is useful to even a few people, that's already great.

Happy to have feedback (especially on distributing the app!)

Ps: 1st HN contrib, hope it's the right format

Ask HN: What critical legacy system at work is everyone afraid to touch?

Hacker News - Tue, 07/14/2026 - 1:31am

I recently inherited an old phone and call centre system at work It runs on Elastix/CentOS, a custom windows app, MySQL, GSM gateways with analogue devices and static ips, with almost no documentation at all.

The strange thing is, it works really well. The problem is that nobody fully understands every dependency anymore and changing the wrong thing could affect a large part of the company so for now am documenting everything, improving the backups virtualising it and isolating it before attempting replacment.

Has anyone else inherited a critical system that everyone was afraid to touch?
