Show HN: ScreenFocus – keyboard focus follows the pointer across Mac displays

Hacker News - Sun, 07/26/2026 - 3:07am

I have a multi-monitor setup and spend a lot of time typing in Codex and other AI agents. When I move to another monitor to run a shortcut, focus often stays in Codex or another text app, so the shortcut runs in the wrong place.

I asked ChatGPT if there was a macOS setting or free app for this. It couldn't find one that did exactly what I wanted, so I asked it to prototype one. It built a working version in one go.

I then used Codex to add sensible defaults, focus protection, an optional display border, packaging, documentation, an MPL 2.0 license, a logo, and screenshots.

ScreenFocus is the result: keyboard focus follows the pointer across displays while global shortcuts keep working.

This was my first native Mac app, and I used GPT-5.6 Sol with High reasoning. If you check out the README, help docs, and other Markdown files, you might be surprised by how complete it feels.

I also added Launch at Login, full-border and corner-marker styles, custom colors, automatic pausing when only one monitor is connected, and a few other settings.

Show HN: VoiceScroll – a teleprompter that scrolls as you speak

Hacker News - Sun, 07/26/2026 - 3:04am

I didn't want to carry a separate remote or Bluetooth pedal, and scrolling manually kept making me look away from the camera.

VoiceScroll uses on-device speech recognition to follow your position in the script and adjust the scroll speed. It works offline and doesn't require an account. Speech and scripts stay on the device.

Scripts up to 300 characters are free. Longer scripts require a one-time purchase; there's no subscription. It's available on iOS and Android and currently supports 22 languages.

I'm happy to go into more detail about how the script matching works.

Connection-Agnostic Presence Tracking for Stateless Distributed Back Ends

Hacker News - Sun, 07/26/2026 - 3:01am

i was facing problem of tracking online presence of devices across processes. reconnection shouldn't mark them as offline and then online again. and other scaling issues, like when connection moves from one process or another.

so i wrote a simple paper with my ideas. i hope you guys will find it interesting.

Show HN: I built an AI that roasts GitHub profiles

Hacker News - Sun, 07/26/2026 - 2:28am

I built GitHub Roast as a fun weekend project.I originally shared it on X just for fun, but it ended up getting around 1,200 visitors a day, so I kept improving it.

I'd love to hear what the HN community thinks—especially if there are ways to make the feedback more useful and less gimmicky.
